Product Description

Native to South America, particularly Brazil, Venezuela and Guyana, Dipteryx odorata (Cumaru or Tonka bean) is believed to have magical powers. Tribal people make herbal infusions they believe help to heal the soul by relieving symptoms of depression and boosting the immune system.

PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT an essential oil. It is an HERBAL OIL made by infusion of Tonka Beans powder in jojoba Oil. It does dot have the strength  of the Essential oil, but it does have the adorable scent of Vanilla. You can use it either as a perfumery oil or add to your formula to replace the synthetic Vanilla.

Also called Cumaru, the seeds of the Dipteryx odorata tree have been used for centuries in perfumery as well as in food preparations due to its vanilla like flavor and scent. It was first discovered in 1868, and marked with a Latin name – Dipteric Coumarou. The substance responsible for the pleasant smell of the bean, coumarin, also has a dark side. Coumarin is very bitter to taste, signaling that larger doses of Tonka beans may provoke serious liver damage, and even be fatal. The beans are forbidden to eat in the USA and natural coumarin has been completely replaced by a synthetic one.
